Electronics Systems Development & Application

The Electronics Systems Development and Application (ESDA) Division is promoting technology development and applications in Industrial Electronics for various industrial and service sectors covering Power Electronics, Intelligent Transportation System, Automation System for process industries, Agri Electronics, Electronics Personal Safety Devices and Systems for person in distress etc.

MeitY has conceptualized and evolved major programmes targeted to address the specific technological needs of the Power Electronics, Industrial Automation, Road Transport Sectors and Agriculture & Environment. Some of these include National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET), Automation Systems Technology Centre (ASTeC) Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), Development of Electric Vehicle Subsystem (EVSS) and National programme on Electronics and ICT Applications in Agriculture and Environment (AgriEnIcs). NaMPET Phase-III and ITS Phase-II has created a network of experts in the country, with expertise to take up research work in the emerging areas of power electronics and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Under the umbrella of NaMPET, several projects have been funded for development of futuristic technologies. Under the programme, few technologies have been developed for the first time in India and some of them have been transferred to industries for commercialization. NaMPET has been successful in generating keen interest amongst researchers, organisations and industry in the country.

Generally, the projects undertaken by the Division are implemented through MeitY’s own societies like C-DAC, SAMEER, national laboratories of CSIR, CPRI, academia and other research agencies. Specific projects for competitive R&D are also undertaken at relevant manufacturing industries. A continued interaction with institutions of higher learning like IITs and IISc makes the ministry understand the needs of the academia as well as stay in touch with cutting edge developments. For field-oriented application projects, the division ensures participation of the end user and concerned Ministry for effective implementation.

The objectives of the division are as follows:

  • To contribute significantly towards enhancement of the country’s research, design and application capabilities in emerging technologies.
  • To create institutional infrastructure and pool of experienced manpower for the above.
  • To help in creating cutting edge technology and products by supporting research and development cycle, from the proof of concept to technology transfer.
  • To demonstrate improvements in productivity, quality and safety by the application of emerging technologies to different sectors of the economy.
  • To assist the industry – including the MSME sector - by making available to them cost-effective, state-of-art technologies.

Applications are invited for the category of ‘New Projects’ under ESDA in the allied fields.

Proposals are invited in the prescribed format[PDF]177.43 KB, in consortium approach involving manufacturers, users, developers and Startups with financial and technical support through out the year. The proposal should be application oriented, targeted to the product development and deployment in time bounded manner in the following thrust areas:

The thrust areas of the division are:

  • Power Electronics
  • Automation Systems for process industries and Industrial Automation
  • Intelligent Transportation System
  • Agriculture and Environment
  • Electronics Personal Safety devices and systems
  • E-mobility etc.
